Background & Legislative Mandate
The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) was established by an Act of the National Legislature of the Republic of Liberia on March 18, 1999, and amended in 2020. The CBL replaced the former National Bank of Liberia (NBL) and holds functional independence to formulate and execute monetary policy, regulate the banking sector, and issue national legal tender currency.
